Trenton-Mercer Airport is set to experience a surge in activity for a duration of two weeks as it plays host to military training.
The county has announced that a “routine realistic” exercise will commence on Monday at the county-owned airport in the West Trenton section of Ewing. This exercise will involve both ground and air activities, as confirmed by a statement from the county.
The training will include additional aircraft, including rotary wing aircraft, which may extend into the evening.
Closed to the public, media
The U.S. military has organized a training exercise that differs from the large-scale emergency exercise held in 2023, which involved various local first responders, fire companies, and law enforcement. This exercise, unlike the previous one, is not open to the public or the media. The county has stated that this decision was made due to “safety concerns.”
Frontier Airlines offers exclusive daily flights from Trenton-Mercer, making it the sole commercial airline operating at this airport. Additionally, the New Jersey Air National Guard also maintains its facilities at this location.
According to the airport website, there are about 85,000 take-offs and landings that occur each year.
