This Week in Music 9/24

Nolan Brown, Sports Editor

Despite a relatively quiet week for music with featured releases from the likes of Alicia Keys in her self titled ‘ALICIA’, her seventh studio album, and young breakout Lil Tecca with ‘Virgo World’ (selling 53k and 24k respectively) tonight’s lineup seems a lot more promising. Set to release midnight on September 25th are an array of albums set to please any avid listener. Most notably are Joji’s ‘Nectar’ originally set to debut on July 10, Bryson tiller’s ‘Trapsoul Deluxe’ following a two year hiatus, and A$AP Ferg’s ‘Floor Seat II’ which comes amidst controversy from his unexpected absence of his A$AP collective.

This weeks artist to watch is Atlanta based collective Spillage Village, comprised of stars such as 6LACK (pronounced Black) JID and EARTHGANG (both members of the J. Cole led Dreamville) Mereba, Jurdan Bryant, as well as producers Hollywood JB and Benji. Though their formation came in 2010, with prior releases in 2014 and 2016, recent successes have brought the group into the limelight, helping them master their refined sound of soul and hip hop, engrossing themselves in the city that raised them. Their official debut comes tonight with album ‘Spilligion’ landing features among the likes of Chance the Rapper, Masego, and grammy nominated Lucky Daye. Music aforementioned can be found on all streaming services including Apple Music, Spotify, and Youtube.
