This Week in Music 10/15/20
October 15, 2020
Following a week mixed with debuts and comebacks alike, Blackpink’s ‘The Album” led the Billboard charts, with second place sales between Pop Smoke’s posthumous July 3rd release ‘Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon’ and the 21 Savage x Metro Boomin collaboration ‘Savage Mode II’. Tonight’s lineup proves to be just as daunting with Buffalo, New York native Benny the Butcher’s ‘Burden of Proof’ including appearances from Rick Ross, Big Sean, and fellow Black Soprano Family members Conway the Machine and Westside Gunn. Drake collaborator and OVO R&B star Partynextdoor is also set to release his EP ‘PARTYPACK’ with the chilling sounds of romance just in time for a coming winter.
This weeks artist to watch is St. Louis born Ryan Trey, with a debut tape in 2018, a short EP (if you can call it that) in 2019 and recently dropping a single earlier this year. Trey has begun to hint at another album in the works and has repeatedly teased on instagram that the project is “something special” even returning to his hometown to “handle business.” Some of his standout tracks include ‘Mutual Butterflies’ a slow ballad dedicated to reminiscence, ‘Temptations’ a late night ode to romantic disruption, and ‘Rollin’ a bittersweet look back into failed relationships.
