Braves Eliminated From Playoff Contention
October 20, 2020
The Atlanta curse continued on Sunday night as the Braves fell short of a 3-1 game deficit with the dodgers powering out in front. A dramatic game 7 came underway with the Braves striking in the first inning off a Marcel Ozuna single, followed by a Dansby Swanson home run in the second inning. Braves starter Ian Anderson made his 10th major league appearance, and following 3 postseason outings with zero earned runs, the bar was set high for the star rookie. Trouble found him early however, with a Will Smith single that scored two, and with 70+ pitches in only 3 innings, manager Brian Snitker was forced to open the bullpen early. Braves third basemen Austin Riley quickly broke the tie with a single in the fourth, but the Dodgers answered with a Kiké Hernandez solo blast in the sixth, and a Cody Bellinger moonshot in the seventh. Though the loss came as a sting to many Atlanta fans, the club has proved its longevity with a young core and rotation that will stick around for years, and potential extensions with soon to be free agents like Marcel Ozuna will continue to strengthen the roster for a foreseeable future.
