House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) stood up for President Joe Biden, asserting that his son Hunter Biden has not engaged in any wrongdoing.
During an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, fill-in moderator Peter Alexander confronted the ranking House Democrat with President Biden’s comment from 2023, stating that Hunter Biden had “done nothing wrong.” Alexander also referenced a Wall St. Journal editorial board piece that criticized the president, arguing that his comment undermined his own Justice Department, which had indicted Hunter Biden on multiple gun and tax charges.
The editorial board of The Journal expressed their disapproval of the president’s message, deeming it highly inappropriate. They believe that the president is essentially telling prosecutors that they are mistaken in bringing an indictment because Hunter is innocent of any criminal behavior.
Alexander pressed Jeffries, questioning why it was appropriate for President Biden to publicly comment on his son’s case.
Jeffries stood up in defense of the president’s remarks.
According to Jeffries, President Biden expressed his thoughts as a caring father, which is something that he believes any loving father would do.
In his assessment of the case against Hunter Biden, Leader Jeffries made a reference to former President Donald Trump. Hunter Biden’s trial on federal gun charges is set to begin on Monday.
Jeffries emphasized that both Hunter Biden and Donald Trump are entitled to the presumption of innocence and a trial by a jury of their peers. He stated that the Justice Department will proceed in a fair and unbiased manner, presenting the facts and the law. Ultimately, it will be up to a jury to determine Hunter Biden’s guilt or innocence.
