A victim has been identified in the shooting that closed South Nevada

On May 23, 2024, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) had to close S. Nevada near I-25 for several hours following a deadly shooting. The victim’s identity has been revealed by the department.

According to CSPD, there was a shooting on South Nevada Avenue near the southbound off-ramp from I-25 on May 23, 2024, at around 6:04 AM. When the officers reached the location, they discovered a male victim who had sustained at least one gunshot wound. The victim was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later declared dead.

The deceased individual has been identified as Darryl Edward Scurry Jr., aged 45, by the El Paso County Coroner. Although the cause and manner of death will be determined by the coroner’s office, the incident is currently being investigated as a homicide.

As of now, the number of homicides in Colorado Springs has reached 20, marking a significant increase from the 11 homicides that occurred during the same period last year.

Detectives are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident and are yet to have a suspect in custody. They are also developing potential suspect information as part of the investigation.
