The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the day to day lives of people around the world. Since March of 2020, millions have been diagnosed with the disease. Schools and business have closed and the order of our world has changed in order to prevent the spread of the virus. Since the pandemic began, doctors and scientists have been working around the clock trying to create an effective vaccine. This vaccine will be critical in getting our world back to normal.

Currently, two Covid-19 vaccines have been approved for use in the United States. The first vaccine, the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine is the most widely used. This vaccine consists of two shots given in the muscle of the upper arm 21 days apart. It is recommended that all Americans over the age of 16 be vaccinated. The most commonly reported side effects are pain, swelling, and redness in the arm and chills, tiredness, and headaches. The side effects usually go away in the first few days. This vaccine is reportedly to be 95% effective at preventing Covid-19

Two Moderna vaccines are also an option. This vaccine requires two shots in the upper arm 28 days apart. This vaccine is recommended for people 18 or older. The most commonly reported side effects from this vaccine are also pain, swelling, and redness in the arm and chills, tiredness, and headaches. Based on evidence from clinical trials, the Modera vaccine is 94.1% effective at preventing Covid-19.

Many people don’t look forward to getting ill from a vaccine, but the payoff might be worth it in the long run if we can eradicate this disease
