Florida stops Oklahoma’s 20-game playoff victory streak with a home run barrage at the WCWS

Florida softball found themselves in yet another elimination game, marking the third time this season.

The Gators achieved yet another victory, marking their third consecutive win.

In an impressive performance, Florida secured a crucial victory over Oklahoma, the three-time defending national champions, with a score of 9-3. With this win, the team is now just one step away from clinching the Women’s College World Series championship round. The game took place on a Monday afternoon at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, and Florida’s players demonstrated their strength and skill on the field.

Keagan Rothrock secured her 33rd win of the season, contributing to Florida’s total of 54 wins. In addition to this, their recent victory put an end to Oklahoma’s 20 game winning streak in the NCAA softball tournament. The Sooners’ previous loss in the postseason dates back to 2022, during their game against UCLA in the WCWS.

Florida’s offense was off to a sluggish start in Oklahoma City. However, they came alive on Sunday when they faced off against Alabama. The Gators managed to score six runs and get 10 hits against the Crimson Tide, allowing them to advance to the semifinal round.

On Monday, the offense continued to display a similar performance.

Florida’s offense was absolutely explosive, making it difficult to quantify all the ways they dominated. In short, it was an impressive performance.

The Gators managed to score runs in all innings except for the sixth, as they already had a comfortable lead.

As a dynamic duo, Reagan Walsh and Skylar Wallace were the driving force behind the success.

In the first inning, Walsh, a native of California, drove in Florida’s opening run. Later in the fourth inning, she crushed a sensational three-run home run that gave the Gators a commanding lead of 7-1.

Ava Brown, who had yet to make an RBI in the WCWS, hit a remarkable double in the third inning. Kendra Falby also made an impressive inside-the-park home run, adding to the Gators’ impressive performance.

On Monday, Falby, who batted in the ninth position, achieved a remarkable feat by hitting the first inside-the-parker at the WCWS since 2014. During the game, she went 2-3 at the plate, registering her first multi-hit game since UF’s last regular season game against Texas A&M on May 5. Moreover, Falby made a great play early in the game by catching a ball in center field, which significantly demoralized Oklahoma.

Rothrock’s performance in the circle was reminiscent of a Sunday, not her best day but effective nonetheless. She managed to limit the potent Oklahoma offense to just three runs and provided ample support to maintain the lead.

She has become quite adept at escaping numerous jams, as seems to be the norm for her.

The Gainesville Sun reported that Florida managed to put an end to Oklahoma’s impressive 20-game postseason win streak by unleashing a barrage of home runs during the Women’s College World Series.
