Texas food banks to receive $20 million donation from H-E-B Chairman

The Chairman of H-E-B, Charles Butt, has committed to donating $20 million to food banks in the Feeding Texas Network as a measure to tackle the issue of food insecurity. This move is aimed at providing relief to those who are struggling to access food during these tough times.

The generous donation will provide crucial support to the Feeding Texas Network, which comprises 20 food banks, including the Galveston County Food Bank and the Houston Food Bank. With its reach spanning across 254 counties, the Feeding Texas Network benefits over five million Texans, including children, with annual donations.

In an effort to combat childhood hunger during the summer months, the Houston Food Bank has partnered with local businesses to provide meals for kids in the city. The program aims to ensure that children who rely on school meals during the school year do not go hungry during the summer break.

Through this initiative, the Houston Food Bank will distribute meals to children at various locations throughout the city. Participating businesses will also contribute by providing meals and snacks to supplement the food bank’s efforts.

This collaborative effort is a reminder of the power of community involvement in addressing social issues. By working together, the Houston Food Bank and local businesses are helping to ensure that children in need have access to nutritious meals and the support they need to thrive.

Texas has been ranked by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as the second-most food-insecure state in the country. This alarming situation affects four million people who are experiencing food insecurity, with children making up 20 percent of that number. Donations, like the ones being made, can go a long way in alleviating this critical issue.

Since its establishment in 1905, H-E-B has consistently supported hunger relief efforts. Through their own H-E-B hunger relief programs, such as the H-E-B food bank assistance program, they have donated over 33 million pounds of food to families in need in the previous year alone.
