On Tuesday, the Republican candidates selected by Donald Trump for the 2024 election showed promising results during primary votes in four states. This serves as another indication of the former President’s impact on the GOP, as he simultaneously campaigns for re-election in November.
At 11:55 p.m. EST on Tuesday, projections indicated that almost all of Trump’s endorsed candidates for Senate, House, and gubernatorial races in South Carolina, North Dakota, and Maine were on track for victory. Primary races were also held in Nevada on Tuesday evening, but as of publication time, no results had been called.
Less than five months before the general election, Donald Trump clinched primary wins while less than two weeks after he was found guilty of 34 felony counts for the hush money payment to adult-film star Stormy Daniels. Trump is expected to be sentenced on July 11, just four days before the Republican National Convention will gather to select their presidential nominee for the 2024 elections. Despite his conviction, Trump remains the presumptive GOP candidate.
As midnight approached, the states where Trump’s endorsees had emerged victorious were reported by the Associated Press (AP).
South Carolina
On Tuesday, Representative Nancy Mace secured the Republican nomination for South Carolina’s 1st District. Despite previously being a vocal critic of Trump, the controversial conservative lawmaker managed to defeat a GOP candidate who had the backing of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Interestingly, Mace was one of seven Republicans who played a role in removing McCarthy from the speaker’s chair back in October.
As she delivered her victory speech on Tuesday, Mace expressed her gratitude to the people of South Carolina and pledged support to President Trump. “In November, South Carolina will be there for you, Mr. President,” she declared. Mace also thanked her supporters for standing by her and defending her. “I’m grateful to all of you for your unwavering support,” she said. “Your loyalty and dedication mean the world to me.”
In South Carolina’s 2nd District, incumbent Representative Joe Wilson emerged victorious over GOP candidate Hampton Redmond, further solidifying Trump’s picks. Meanwhile, in the state’s 3rd Congressional District, Mark Burns, an evangelical pastor and vocal advocate of the former president, advanced to a runoff election against Republican candidate Sheri Biggs with Trump’s endorsement.
Congressman William Timmons, who was endorsed by Trump, has won the South Carolina’s 4th Congressional District race, according to AP. Timmons defeated state Representative Adam Morgan, who had the support of a number of congressional conservatives, including House Freedom Caucus Chair Bob Good and Florida Representative Matt Gaetz.
North Dakota
On Tuesday night, Kelly Armstrong, who was chosen by former President Trump as the Republican nominee for North Dakota’s gubernatorial race, won the GOP nomination by defeating Tammy Miller, the state’s lieutenant governor.
In North Dakota, Julie Fedorchak, a public service commissioner, emerged victorious in the Republican race for the state’s only House of Representatives seat. Fedorchak defeated both attorney Cara Mund and former state Representative Rick Becker to secure the nomination.
Republican Senator Kevin Cramer, a staunch Trump supporter, emerged victorious in his party’s primary elections without any opposition. In the upcoming November elections, he will be up against Democrat Katrina Christiansen in a bid to secure his reelection.
Maine
Austin Theriault, a former NASCAR driver and a Trump endorsee, emerged victorious in the GOP primary for the 2nd Congressional District in Maine. He defeated Maine State Representative Michael Soboleski, who is also a supporter of President Trump.
Republican state lawmaker Theriault is set to challenge three-time incumbent Democrat Congressman Jared Golden for the seat of Maine’s 2nd District in November. As per reports by AP, the district has favored Trump in the previous two elections.
Nevada
In Nevada, Republican Senate hopeful Sam Brown has secured victory over two other Republican candidates and will now face off against Democratic incumbent Jacky Rosen in the November elections. Over the weekend, President Trump gave his endorsement for Brown, choosing him over U.S. Ambassador to Iceland Jeff Gunter and former state Assemblyman Jim Marchant, both of whom have been vocal supporters of the former president.
Nevada’s 4th Congressional District race had yet to be called by AP. John Lee, the former mayor of North Las Vegas, was competing for the Republican nomination. Lee was endorsed by Trump, despite the support of five members of Congress for retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel David Flippo, including some of Trump’s most ardent supporters like Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert and Arizona Representative Paul Gosar.
