Fatal accident on U.S. 50 Highway results in 2 deaths and 3 injuries on Monday afternoon

On Monday afternoon, a tragic incident occurred on U.S. 50 Highway that resulted in the loss of two lives and left three others injured in a two-vehicle crash.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 16-year-old boy was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on U.S. 50 when he dozed off, causing the vehicle to veer off the road. The truck then re-entered the road and crossed Business 50 before becoming airborne and colliding with a 2022 Acura RDX that was stationary at the intersection.

After leaving the road, both automobiles veered off the roadway, and the Acura crashed into a road sign.

Upon arriving at the location, authorities declared Patricia L. Moffett, 83, from Overland Park, and Derek B. Moffett, 55, from Erie, Colorado, deceased.

Two residents of Erie, Colorado – a 19-year-old and a 16-year-old – were transported to Research Medical Center in serious condition via life-flight.

A private vehicle transported the 16-year-old driver of the Chevy to an area hospital with minor injuries.
