Suspect Faces Charges in Fatal Shooting at Kansas City Apartment

Kansas City apartment shooting results in suspect being charged with woman’s death

Jackson County prosecutors have charged a 22-year-old man from Kansas City for his purported involvement in a shooting that led to the tragic demise of a 23-year-old woman.

Travon Marcel Oliver was charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action on Thursday.

Around noon on June 26th, there were reports of a shooting in the area surrounding E. Linwood Boulevard and Garfield Avenue.

As per the court records, Oliver had arranged to spend some quality time with the victim at the apartment. However, things took an ugly turn when the victim accused Oliver of infidelity, resulting in a heated argument between the two.

As per the court records, Oliver stated that the victim had grabbed his firearm from a table. He acknowledged it, grabbing it back from her with force and then moving away. However, as he was still holding the firearm, it went off accidentally, hitting the victim in the head.

Concealed in the bushes behind the apartment building, authorities discovered a silver Ruger 9mm handgun. Oliver is presently in custody at the Jackson County jail, with a bond set at $150,000.

On Monday, July 8th at 1:30 p.m., the court has scheduled a bond review hearing where the judge will carefully scrutinize the current bond and assess if any modifications are necessary.
