Flood Watch Issued for Polk County and Multiple Other Iowa Counties

Polk County included in flood watch effecting multiple Iowa counties

DES MOINES, Iowa — A flood watch is in place for parts of northern and western Iowa into Tuesday AM.

Thunderstorms are forecast to move in from Nebraska, bringing with them heavy rainfall. Rainfall in streaks of 1-3″ is expected, but isolated spots could see up to 3-5″ of rain.

These highest levels would probably cause severe ponding and flash flooding. Rises to nearby streams, creeks, lakes, and rivers are likely with the runoff.

Flooding at the Des Moines river

The Des Moines River is already experiencing flooding, which might cause the current levels to rise.

Although this watch includes Polk County and Des Moines, the threat seems to be most active in other parts of northern and western Iowa.
