In Florida City, a man from Tennessee was apprehended over the weekend for leaving three dogs in a scorching car in a motel parking lot, as per police reports.
Officers from the Florida City Police Department received a report about an unattended vehicle in the parking lot of the Budget Host Inn Motel, situated at 815 N. Krome Ave. Upon arriving at the location, they found three dogs inside the vehicle. The department’s release of an arrest report included this information.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police had a conversation with the hotel staff who reported that a van had been parked at the location since 4:13 a.m. on Saturday. Shockingly, the vehicle contained three dogs who were left without any food or water despite the scorching weather.
Investigators have reported that witnesses raised concerns about the welfare of the dogs. These witnesses observed that the canines were left out in the scorching sun without any provisions.
Upon inspecting the rear of the vehicle, authorities discovered a crate containing three dogs. The crate was full of feces and urine, which had left visible marks on the dogs’ skin, potentially indicating bite marks.
Miami-Dade Animal Control received the notification and promptly arrived at the location. According to officials, they took the dogs away and transferred them to the Miami-Dade County Animal Control shelter. They also documented the scene by taking photographs.
Police located and apprehended Edward Xavier Ellington, 43, of La Vergne, in Room 119 of the Budget Host Inn at approximately 2 p.m. He was taken into custody in connection with the incident.
According to jail records, Ellington is being charged with three counts of animal cruelty with the intent to injure or kill. He is currently being detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with a bond set at $7,500 as of Monday.
