30-year-wanted Wisconsin fugitive arrested in West Des Moines

Iowa’s West Des Moines- Last week, a man wanted for thirty years out of Wisconsin was apprehended in West Des Moines.

West Des Moines Police detained George Hartleroad on June 26. He lived close to Valley Junction and was homeless. According to court documents, he was stopped by police because his bicycle lacked a rear reflector.According to the police, he first supplied a false name before revealing his own identity. They discovered that he had been sought by Wisconsin authorities since 1994 after running his name.

According to Wisconsin state records, Hartleroad was found guilty of rape in a case from 1983.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, he was imprisoned for five years before breaking out of a halfway house. That was then, and still is, his desire.

Currently awaiting extradition to Wisconsin, Hartleroad is being held in the Polk County jail.
