Man Stuck in Upstate New York Cave for Hours

A 20-year-old hiker found himself in a harrowing situation over the weekend, resulting in multiple emergency crews being deployed to rescue him. According to WTEN, the young man, who remains unidentified, had been exploring Clarksville cave in New York with a group of friends. According to Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple, the 20-year-old became trapped while attempting to follow his companions out of the cave.

According to News 10’s report, Apple stated that the Onesquethaw Fire, New York State Fire, and Slingerlands Rescue, along with crews from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office search and rescue team, collaborated for several hours to rescue a man who was trapped in a cave. They utilized various pulley systems to aid in freeing the hiker. The rescue operation lasted for five hours and the individual sustained only minor injuries.

Onesquethaw Volunteer Fire Company took to their Facebook page  to share photos of a recent rescue operation. In the post, they expressed their gratitude towards neighboring fire companies, as well as members from the cave conservancy and local cavers who assisted with the call.
