17-Year-Old Among Two Arrested for Robbery and Shooting

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department detectives have apprehended a 20-year-old man along with his 17-year-old male accomplice for their involvement in the robbery and shooting of a man on Tuesday morning.

Police detectives specializing in aggravated assault have apprehended David Tillman, a 20-year-old, and his 17-year-old accomplice for their suspected involvement in the robbery and shooting of a man that took place on Tuesday morning in the 1600 block of North College Avenue.

Early Tuesday morning at around 12:40 a.m., officers of the IMPD were dispatched to the 1600 block of North College Avenue following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male lying on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds. The victim was immediately transported to the hospital by Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services and is currently in a serious but stable condition.

After arriving at the scene, officers interviewed witnesses and gathered crucial information regarding the suspects. With the help of the gathered descriptions, the police then broadcasted the suspects’ details through their radio system to other officers in the vicinity.

Upon their arrival at the scene, IMPD aggravated assault detectives took charge of the ongoing investigation. They were able to analyze the camera footage relevant to the incident. The footage revealed that one of the suspects had forcibly taken a gun from the victim’s pocket, leading to a physical altercation between the two. The second suspect joined in, and eventually, the suspects gained control of the firearm and shot the victim. In addition, the video footage provided detectives with more detailed descriptions of the suspects.

As the detectives were conducting their investigation at the crime scene, a report came in that the possible suspects had been sighted in the vicinity. A security officer, who had heard the description of the suspects on the radio, informed the authorities that the two individuals had entered an adjacent apartment building. Additional witnesses also confirmed the same. While the officers were securing the building, two men matching the exact description of the suspects briefly opened the door and quickly shut it. The officers immediately instructed the occupants of the apartment to exit the premises. Subsequently, the detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence, and the IMPD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team was called in to assist with the warrant service. Finally, the two males, identified as 20-year-old David Tillman and a 17-year-old male, were taken into custody.

During the search of the apartment, the authorities found the attire that the suspects were seen wearing in the video footage of the incident. In addition, they discovered a handgun along with several individually packaged baggies of narcotics.

It was discovered that Tillman had warrants out of Marion County for violating his parole due to his past convictions for rape and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. These were also found to be active warrants.

Authorities have arrested Tillman and a 17-year-old male for their alleged involvement in the robbery and aggravated assault case, as well as for their outstanding warrants.

The final charging decisions will be made by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office after reviewing the case.
