Tragic Fourth of July Shooting: 9 Shot, Including 14-Year-Old, 1 Fatally, in Southwest Philadelphia

On Thursday night, a mass shooting occurred in Southwest Philadelphia during the Fourth of July celebration. Tragically, the incident resulted in one fatality and left eight other individuals injured. At around noon on Friday, Mayor Cherelle Parker is scheduled to conduct a press conference regarding the shooting.

At 11:40 p.m., a shooting incident near the intersection of 60th Street and Kingsessing Ave resulted in nine casualties. Among the victims were six adults and three juveniles, as per the report of the police.

During their routine patrol, officers discovered a victim lying on the ground. Responding officers discovered more victims at the scene, while others made their way to nearby hospitals for treatment.

According to reports from Action News, the group of juveniles consists of individuals aged between 14 to 16 years old.

The police have yet to identify the victim, but they have disclosed that he was around 20 years old. He sustained a single gunshot wound in the head and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. According to reports, the remaining victims are now in a stable condition.

According to officials, the crime scene extends across two blocks and there is a possibility that a barbecue was taking place at the time of the incident.

At present, there is no description available for potential suspects, and no information has been released regarding a possible motive by the police.

Inspector Kpana Massaquoi from the Philadelphia Police Department stated that, as of now, they are not aware of any motive behind the incident.

The search for the individual or group accountable is still ongoing.
