In northwest Miami-Dade on Friday afternoon, a shooting occurred that resulted in one fatality and two injuries. The authorities are currently investigating the incident.
The incident occurred on Northwest 36th Street’s 7300 block, which is situated to the east of the Palmetto Expressway.
Miami-Dade Police Detective Andre Martin reported that shots were fired at the back of a shopping center on Northwest 36th Street, prompting officers to be dispatched at 1:09 p.m.
According to Martin, the police have taken five men who were present near the shooting scene in a white SUV into custody to investigate their potential involvement in the incident. Additionally, several guns were found at the location and are currently being analyzed for any potential evidence they may provide.
As the shooting took place, a man was apprehended on the ground, surrounded by numerous police officers who had their guns at the ready. Video footage captured by a cellphone depicts the tense scene.
At a church, a Local 10 News crew witnessed two men conversing with the police. Following the conversation, one of the men was taken away in handcuffs.
Investigators stated that the shooting occurred due to a physical altercation that arose from an argument and resulted in the use of firearms.
According to officials, the shooting is not believed to be associated with any gang activity and instead appears to have been carried out by individuals who were acquainted with each other.
As the shooting unfolded, a person was quickly airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. Sky 10 flew over the scene, capturing the urgent rescue mission in progress.
According to MDFR, a second person was transported to JMH by medics, while another individual received treatment for minor injuries at the scene.
At the location of a nearby Wendy’s, Miami-Dade police officers were canvassing the area and speaking with witnesses, as observed by a Local 10 News crew.
As the investigation continues, the police have also closed down Northwest 36th Street.
At the moment, there are no confirmed identities or ages of the victims, and authorities have not made any arrests in connection to the incident.
