Family of Los Angeles Woman Shot in Vehicle Demands Justice, Accuses Deputy of Inaction

The shooting and subsequent death of a woman in Los Angeles has prompted her family to demand an investigation into the incident. According to the family, there was a delayed response by a sheriff’s deputy that could have potentially saved her life. The woman was shot while in her vehicle earlier this week and tragically passed away.

According to police, a tragic incident occurred on Tuesday when 22-year-old Raejonette Morgan was shot while sitting in her vehicle at a bustling intersection in South Los Angeles. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries on Thursday at UCLA General Harbor Hospital.

During a press conference held on Friday, the family of Morgan demanded justice for her death. They urged for the individuals responsible forthe shooting and the sheriff’s deputy present at the scene, who allegedly reported Morgan’s death and failed to assist her immediately, to be held accountable for their actions.

During the press conference, Anginette Morgan, the mother of Raejonette Morgan, firmly stated that justice must be served and those responsible for her daughter’s unfortunate incident must face the consequences. She demanded that the officers involved step aside or undergo a thorough investigation. “I’m going to demand that justice — she gets justice for what happened to her,” she said.

Police have not yet made any arrests related to the shooting, and as of now, there is no description of the suspect available.

During the press conference held on Friday, Dionne Leslie-Pullen, a bystander who filmed and uploaded a Facebook Live video, gained national attention for her footage of the shooting.

Leslie-Pullen can be seen in a video reviewed by ABC News asking the deputy if they can help the woman who is still breathing. However, the response from the deputy cannot be heard.

According to Leslie-Pullen, she sought refuge in a nearby dispensary when she heard gunshots. After the shooting had stopped, she came out and began filming.

Leslie-Pullen expressed her emotions at the press conference, “Do you know how that feels? To know that she could have been saved, she was smiling. She fought when she got out.”

Family of woman shot and killed by LA sheriff's deputy takes legal action against department

According to a statement sent to KABC, the Sheriff’s Department is reviewing the incident to ensure that department policies and procedures were adhered to.

The Sheriff’s Department statement expressed grave concerns over the incident and assured that detectives are actively working to solve the heinous murder in order to bring justice to the family. The Department extended their heartfelt condolences to the family of Raejonette Morgan during this tragic time. The statement also reaffirmed the Department’s unyielding commitment to saving lives and safeguarding the community members in any emergency situation.

KABC reported that the deputy requested assistance as the department was uncertain if the vehicle belonged to the suspect or the victim initially.

ABC News’ request for comment has not yet received a response from the department’s spokesperson. The identity of the deputy who responded remains unknown at this time.

During the news conference on Friday, Ali and Morgan’s family emphasized the importance of finding and holding accountable those responsible for the shooting.

“My baby girl may no longer be with us, but I don’t want her passing to be meaningless. She will always hold a special place in my heart,” expressed Morgan’s mother. “It’s unbearable to think that she was only 22 years old and didn’t deserve to go through such a tragic end.”
