New Castle County Police Make Arrest in Theft Investigation

After investigating a series of vehicle break-ins and a motor vehicle theft, the New Castle County Division of Police has successfully apprehended 22-year-old Peter Brown of Newark.

Officers received a report of a stolen motor vehicle on Quince Drive in Newark on July 3, 2024. During their investigation, they located the stolen vehicle parked at a nearby business on Salem Church Road. Following the discovery, the officers processed the vehicle for evidence before returning it to its rightful owner.

Officers were called to the 2000 block of Cleveland Avenue in Claymont on Thursday, July 4, 2024, following the receipt of reports regarding several vehicles that were broken into overnight. It was reported that property had been stolen from the cars.

After conducting thorough investigations, law enforcement officers were able to pinpoint Peter Brown as the main suspect. On the evening of July 4th, 2024, they successfully tracked him down and apprehended him on Salem Church Road, where he was discovered to be in possession of items that had been stolen from incidents on Cleveland Avenue and Quince Drive.

After being taken to New Castle County Police headquarters, Peter Brown faced charges for various crimes that included:

    • Two felony counts of theft under $1500, where the victim is 62 or older.
    • One felony count of theft of a motor vehicle.
    • One misdemeanor count of theft under $1500.
    • One misdemeanor count of attempt to commit theft under $1500.

After being arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2, Peter Brown was released on his own recognizance.
