Michigan A mother and son were released from the hospital following a car accident that claimed the lives of her husband and another son

After losing two family members in a tragic car accident, a mother and son from Michigan have finally been discharged from the hospital. Despite the severe injuries sustained by the surviving family member, they were able to make a full recovery and are now able to move forward with their lives.

According to a GoFundMe page set up for the family, Chelsea and Levi Savage were released from the hospital on July 10, ten days after the crash that tragically took the lives of Dan and Mason Savage. On the afternoon of June 30, 38-year-old Dan was driving with his wife Chelsea and their three sons, Mason, Parker, and Levi, in Fillmore Township when the incident occurred, as reported by  NBC affiliate WOOD-TV.

Chelsea and her three sons were involved in a tragic accident that led to the death of Dan. The incident left the family with serious injuries, with Mason, 14, and Parker, 10, suffering head injuries. Fortunately, Levi, 9, and Chelsea sustained less severe injuries. They were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

The prognosis for Mason was initially described as “poor,” and unfortunately, he suffered irreversible brain damage and was placed on life support.

According to Joe Josten, the organizer of the GoFundMe campaign, Chelsea decided to donate Mason’s organs on July 6th, which ultimately resulted in saving the lives of at least four individuals.

According to a recent update by Josten, Parker, who will be turning 11 on July 15, is still in the ICU. However, there are encouraging signs of improvement in his condition on a daily basis.

According to a report by CBS affiliate WWMT-TV, the family was on their way to enjoy a dune buggy ride when the incident took place at the intersection of 136th Avenue and 58th Street in Allegan County. It happened approximately 30 miles southwest of Grand Rapids.

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office conducted a preliminary investigation and found that Dan, who was driving west, did not stop at a stop sign. As a result, the family’s sedan was hit by a pickup truck. Fortunately, the driver of the truck was unharmed in the accident.

According to Tina Josten, the boys’ great aunt, the family was “shocked” to learn that Dan, who worked as a driving instructor, failed to stop.

According to her, he is the individual responsible for conducting road tests for individuals seeking their driver’s license. As a result, he is an exceptional driver and incredibly cautious.

According to Tina Josten, Dan had an immense love for his family. “He loved [his family] so much,” she added.

Joe Josten, the organizer of the Savage family’s GoFundMe fundraiser, was contacted by PEOPLE for comment on Thursday, July 11th. The fundraiser has raised almost $50,000 so far.
