Whitewater man sentenced for holding woman against her will

A man named Yefferson Guzman Rodriguez was sentenced to two years in prison for each of two counts by a Walworth County judge in connection with an October 2023 incident in which he held a victim against her will for multiple days while wielding several rifles.

According to reports, Guzman Rodriguez was first spotted by officers on Highland Street, but he quickly took off on foot. The officers chased him down, eventually apprehending him on S. Prince Street. It is said that Guzman Rodriguez resisted arrest, prompting officers to use a taser to subdue him and end the pursuit.

According to authorities, Yefferson Guzman Rodriguez from Whitewater was accused of holding a woman captive and even pointed a gun at her head. Guzman Rodriguez was apprehended by the Whitewater police.

A perimeter was established by officers around the residence and garage, with the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and Beloit Police Department SWAT team being called in to assist in the search of the property. Unfortunately, the suspect was not found during the search. Additionally, Whitewater Police carried out searches on several residences occupied by individuals who were known to the suspect, but he was not found there either.

According to John Weidl, the city manager of Whitewater, one of their officers had a lead on the suspect’s possible whereabouts based on a previous encounter.

On Monday, Guzman Rodriguez was spotted by the police on Highland Street, but he attempted to evade them by running away again. However, he was eventually apprehended on Prince Street, just a few blocks away. The police reported that he resisted their efforts to take him into custody, resulting in them having to use a taser.

Authorities were on the lookout for Guzman Rodriguez in connection to several crimes which included Kidnapping, False Imprisonment, Recklessly Endangering Safety, Intentionally Pointing Firearm at Person, and Disorderly Conduct.
