Caitlin Clark reconsiders her choice of not taking an additional year of eligibility at Iowa

Even though numerous Iowa fans were hopeful that Caitlin Clark would take advantage of her additional year of eligibility, she finally thought it was the right time to move forward to the next chapter of her basketball career.

Instead of taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility provided by the COVID waiver, Clark made the decision to enter the WNBA draft. Her choice paid off when she was selected as the top pick by the Indiana Fever.

During an interview on 107.5 FM’s “The Wake Up Call with KB & Anthony” in Indianapolis, Clark provided additional details on how she came to the decision to join the WNBA.

According to Clark, the moment the Fever secured the top spot in the draft was truly exhilarating.

Clark expressed his excitement about the opportunity, stating that the organization was among the top franchises he had hoped to join. “I was definitely excited. They were probably up there with some of the top organizations and franchises that I would have wanted to go to,” he said.

Clark confirmed that the Fever’s acquisition of the top draft pick did play a role in her choice to leave Iowa.

“I definitely feel valued here. It’s great to be part of a community that appreciates women’s basketball, especially since it’s in the Midwest, close to my home. It just makes everything a lot more convenient for me,” said the basketball player.

“I was really excited to join Aliyah and the rest of the talented team. That was definitely a motivating factor for me. However, it wasn’t the only reason why I left. It was also the right time for me to end my college career at the University of Iowa. We had achieved so much together and there was nothing left for me to do there. I felt that it was better to leave while we were at the top, as it’s difficult to maintain that level of success. As Clark said, it seemed like all the stars aligned for me.”

Clark decided to make the move to the WNBA after leading her team to two consecutive national championship games and winning the National Player of the Year award for two consecutive seasons. The timing seemed appropriate for her to take on this new challenge.

The WNBA is witnessing the emergence of a dynamic young duo in Clark and Aliyah Boston, who are quickly making a name for themselves as top players in the league.

In her debut season, Clark has been a standout player, averaging an impressive 16.7 points, 7.6 assists, 5.9 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. She has demonstrated her shooting skills, with a 39.8% field goal percentage, a 34.2% success rate from beyond the arc, and an 89.0% free throw percentage. Her all-round performance on the court has been exceptional.

In each game, Boston manages to maintain an impressive average of 13.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists.
