Southern Wisconsin is under an extreme thunderstorm watch, with 2″ hail and tornadoes possible

Southern Wisconsin will be under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch starting from Sunday afternoon until early Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center. The affected area spans about 60 miles north and south of a line extending from 45 miles south-southwest of Mason City, Iowa, to 55 miles south of Racine, Wisconsin.

According to the NWS, there will be a surge in thunderstorms this evening, with an increase in coverage and intensity. This could lead to scattered damaging wind gusts of up to 70 mph and isolated large hail of up to 2 inches in diameter, and there is also a possibility of a tornado or two. It is important for residents to stay vigilant and ready for severe weather conditions.

The NWS has warned that hail-producing storms may escalate into a more substantial risk for damaging winds later in the evening. It is also possible for one or two landspout tornadoes to occur. It is advised for residents to stay alert for weather updates and take the necessary safety measures to keep themselves safe.
