California sends dozens of officers to Republican National Convention in Wisconsin

Ahead of the Republican National Convention, California has dispatched 61 of its law enforcement officers to Wisconsin to offer their assistance and support.

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services had coordinated the request for additional support back in May.

A team consisting of officers from the Bakersfield, Fresno, and Long Beach police departments, as well as 40 members of the California Highway Patrol, are headed to Milwaukee.

“Ensuring public safety is of utmost importance, regardless of political affiliations. It gives me immense pride to extend our support to our law enforcement colleagues in Wisconsin, as they gear up for the Republican National Convention. Our joint efforts will create a secure and safe environment for all participants,” stated Governor Gavin Newsom of California.”

Local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies will collaborate with officers to ensure public safety. Their duties will include managing crowds, controlling traffic, and maintaining law and order.

Nancy Ward, Director of Cal OES, emphasized the importance of backing law enforcement in Wisconsin and ensuring the safety of all attendees at the event. She expressed confidence in California’s well-trained and experienced peace officers to effectively bolster security operations in Milwaukee.

Starting from Monday, July 15th to 18th, the Republican National Convention will be held in the city of Milwaukee.
