Arrest made in New Buffalo of Indiana resident wanted for homicide

On Saturday night, authorities were able to arrest a homicide suspect who was wanted in Indiana, thanks to the help of a roadside license plate reader. The suspect was apprehended in New Buffalo, Michigan.

Law enforcement agencies have faced difficulties in effectively sharing information about wanted suspects and their criminal activities, particularly when those agencies are located across state borders, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the police, they have collaborated with local communities and businesses to acquire and maintain license plate reader cameras on public roads. These cameras, also called LPRs, continuously observe vehicles and alert patrolling officers when they come across a stolen vehicle or a wanted individual.

According to the police, the quick response from the community on Saturday night helped the deputies to apprehend a homicide suspect who was wanted. The suspect was taken into custody before 8:30 p.m. on N. Thompson Street near E. Buffalo Street.

At present, the authorities have not disclosed the identity of the suspect, who is a 48-year-old woman from northwest Indiana.
