Woman charged following fatal crash involving pedestrian at Milwaukee bus stop

A fatal crash that occurred in Milwaukee late Thursday night, July 11, resulted in criminal charges for a 24-year-old Greenfield woman. The woman has been charged in connection to the accident.

Alma Espino has been charged with two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. One count is for intoxicated use of a vehicle, while the other is for intoxicated use of a vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration.

At around 11:09 p.m., the Milwaukee Police Department reported that a car traveling south on 91st Street near Hampton Avenue lost control, veered onto the sidewalk, and hit a 57-year-old pedestrian who was waiting at a bus stop. The car then collided with three other vehicles that were stopped at the red light on Hampton Avenue. Regrettably, the victim succumbed to their injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

Investigation underway after fatal crash at 91st and Hampton in Milwaukee

According to a witness account, while driving towards 92nd Street on Hampton Avenue, they spotted a gray Toyota Camry speeding down Swan Road. The vehicle was headed southbound and was traveling at an alarming rate, as reported by the witness.

According to the witness, the Toyota was driving on the grass and scraped the fence alongside it before hitting a pedestrian waiting at a bus stop located on the northwest corner of the Swan Road and Hampton Avenue intersection. The Toyota then flipped in midair two or three times before colliding with three other vehicles.

According to the complaint, the driver of the Toyota, Alma Espino, approached the witness and other motorists after colliding with their vehicle. The witness reported that Espino appeared unconcerned about having just hit a pedestrian. Nevertheless, Espino did check on the well-being of those involved in the accident.

Milwaukee authorities are currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred at the intersection of 91st and Hampton. The details surrounding the crash have not been released at this time, but it is clear that the incident resulted in loss of life. The police complaint states that Espino claimed to have no recollection of hitting a pedestrian or another vehicle. However, she did acknowledge that she might have hit a pole.

According to the complaint, officers observed several open cans of Crown Royal Peach Tea Whiskey on the floor of Espino’s car. It was noted that Espino had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.163g/100mL.

According to the complaint, the Toyota had an electronic device installed that recorded data from the vehicle. The data showed that 4.65 seconds before the collision, the Toyota was moving at a speed of 67 mph. For the following few seconds, the speed of the Toyota ranged from 60 to 70 mph. In contrast, the speed limit on 91st Street at that particular location was only 35 mph.

On July 16th, Espino appeared in court for the first time. The court directed that Justice Point should supervise the defendant. A preliminary hearing has been set for July 26th.
