Gunfire erupts in south Minneapolis, killing a woman and injuring five others

On Monday evening in south Minneapolis, “unruly” scenes led to the tragic death of a woman and injuries to five others due to gunshots being fired.

According to the Minneapolis Police Department, shots were fired on Franklin Avenue East, between 16th and 17th avenues south, at approximately 11:30 p.m. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a woman who had been shot and was in critical condition. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after being transported to Hennepin County Medical Center.

Upon investigation of the scene, law enforcement officials discovered an additional five individuals who were also victims of the incident. Among them was a man who sustained potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds, two men with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, and two women who also suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

According to the police, they are currently investigating the details of the shooting incident that took place near a small encampment. They have confirmed the recovery of a single gun from the scene. Further information is yet to be determined.

The MPD reported that they had to call in extra officers to handle a group of over 20 people who were causing a disturbance at the scene.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner is set to disclose the identity of the deceased woman, along with the cause and manner of her passing. Currently, there have been no further arrests made in relation to this incident.
