Chicago Police Warn of Surge in Street Robberies by Armed Suspects Driving Blue Kia in Wentworth and Grand Crossing Districts

Residents and visitors in Chicago’s 2nd and 3rd Districts should remain vigilant following a series of street robberies reported by the Chicago Police Department in July. According to a community alert issued, victims were approached by two or three males aged between 17 to 23 years old, who emerged from a blue KIA Soul, brandished a firearm, and forcibly took belongings before fleeing.

The KIA, identifiable by its taped-up, damaged back window, has been linked to multiple incidents at different locations, including the 5900 block of S. La Salle Street and the 1500 block of E. 68th Street, all on July 15. These crimes occurred at significantly varied times, with one incident occurring at 1:08 A.M. and the others during daylight at 10:50 A.M. The Illinois License Plate #DY76545 associated with the KIA Soul is a crucial lead in the ongoing investigation.

Chicago Police advise the public to report any suspicious activity promptly and emphasize the importance of providing detailed descriptions of suspects, including distinctive physical characteristics like scars and tattoos. It is recommended to refrain from confronting or pursuing the perpetrators and instead call 9-1-1 and wait for authorities if safe to do so.

Community members witnessing these incidents are urged to come forward with contact information and relevant details to aid law enforcement. Remembering unique identifiers of the assailants, such as “scars, limp, acne, teeth, etc.,” could be crucial in apprehending the suspects and restoring safety to affected neighborhoods.
