RNC 2024: F-35 intercepts 2 more aircraft flying in restricted airspace

On June 6, 2024, a multirole combat aircraft of the United States Air Force, the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, was seen flying over Ramstein Air Base during a day of fighter plane exercises in Ramstein-Miesenbach, Germany.

On Thursday, July 18, two aircraft flew into restricted airspace in southeast Wisconsin, which had been imposed due to the Republican National Convention (RNC). This was the second occurrence of such an incident.

A North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) F-35 aircraft responded twice on Thursday at around 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. due to the aforementioned violations.

According to officials, the airplanes were positioned around 25 nautical miles to the west of Milwaukee. In both cases, NORAD F-35 planes were able to safely escort them out of the area.

On Wednesday, July 17th, a temporary flight restriction violation was reported southwest of Milwaukee, and a North American Aerospace Defense Command F-35 aircraft was promptly deployed to respond to the situation.

The F-35 aircraft flew at an altitude of around 3,000 feet during both occasions and could have been spotted from the ground.
