Prosecutors say a Chicago man supplied the illegal narcotics that murdered a Naperville man

A Naperville man’s overdose and death in 2023 have led to the arrest of a Chicago man who is accused of providing illegal narcotics. The accused will remain in custody until the trial.

According to prosecutors, Christopher Hobson, aged 38, was involved in an incident where the victim had arranged to obtain illegal drugs on February 20, 2023. The following day, at Hobson’s request, an unidentified third party delivered the narcotics to the victim.

The victim, who was 33 years old, passed away due to an overdose after consuming the drugs.

On February 22, authorities discovered the victim unresponsive in his residence. Medical professionals rushed him to the hospital, but unfortunately, he was later pronounced dead. After conducting an autopsy, it was determined that the victim’s cause of death was due to a combination of drug intoxication, which included fentanyl, alprazolam, phenobarbital, and fluoxetine.

Upon searching the victim’s home, investigators discovered multiple bags filled with illegal narcotics. Further inquiry led to the alleged supplier of these drugs being identified as Hobson.

“The extreme danger of illegal narcotics, especially fentanyl, in our communities has been highlighted by the tragic death of the victim,” stated Robert Berlin, DuPage County State’s Attorney. Losing a loved one is already difficult, but losing them suddenly and unnecessarily can have long-lasting, devastating effects on not only the immediate family but also on surviving friends and relatives. I extend my deepest sympathies to those who knew and loved the victim, and I hope they find the strength to keep their memories of him alive. Today’s charges send a clear message to those who deal in this poison that if you supply fatal narcotics leading to someone’s death, you will be identified, charged, prosecuted, and potentially sentenced to up to 30 years in jail.”

On July 17, 2024, authorities arrested Hobson on multiple charges, including three counts of drug-induced homicide, which is classified as a Class X felony. Additionally, Hobson was charged with one count of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, classified as a Class 2 felony, and one count of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, classified as a Class 3 felony.

His next court appearance is scheduled for August 12th.
