CBS58 reporter’s father dead at Florida jewelry shop; family seeks support

On Sunday, Pavlina Osta, a reporter from Milwaukee, took to social media to share the tragic news of her father’s passing. He was shot and killed at the family-owned jewelry store in Florida.

According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Volusia Gold & Diamond witnessed a tragic incident where 83-year-old John Craiger fatally shot Ghazi (Gus) Osta. The accused is now facing charges for first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

According to Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young, it seems that the shooting was a result of a disagreement between Osta and Craiger, who happened to be a customer, instead of a robbery.

According to the family, a GoFundMe campaign was established to support the victim of a brutal act of violence perpetrated by a repeat customer. The family also stated that one of the employees acted heroically by shooting and injuring the attacker, thereby protecting himself and two other employees.

By early Sunday afternoon, the Osta family had raised a little over $1,000 out of their $40,000 goal. They are currently seeking donations to help cover the expenses of hospital and funeral costs.

“Our father was someone who always went above and beyond to assist those in need. He cherished his community, and they reciprocated that love. Losing him has left an immense void in our lives. We will forever feel his absence, and our days will be a little quieter without him. As we navigate through this challenging time, we humbly ask for support from our community.” This is a heartfelt message from the family, expressing their deep sorrow and requesting help in coping with their loss.

Pavlina Osta, who is one of four siblings in her family, recently became an anchor and reporter for CBS58 in the spring. Before joining CBS58, she had gained experience working in Michigan and New York City. Osta took to Instagram on Sunday morning to express the excruciating pain she was experiencing.

After being stranded due to a global technology outage, Osta expressed her relief at being back home with her family. She had originally planned to visit Florida for the weekend, but her flights were unfortunately canceled due to the disruptions at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport.

Osta expressed her deep sense of loss, stating that she misses him immensely. The fact that she was so close to seeing him has made the situation all the more unbearable. She requested everyone to keep her and her family in their prayers as they try to navigate through this new reality.
