On Wednesday, the audience at the Republican National Convention rose to their feet in a standing ovation for a World War II veteran from Wisconsin. The veteran had taken the stage to deliver a speech, which was received with great admiration and respect.
As a part of the RNC’s ‘everyday Americans’ speakers, William Pekrul, a 98-year-old man, captured the attention of the audience.
At the age of only 17, Pekrul enlisted in the military and went on to fight in the Battle of the Bulge after landing on Omaha Beach.
Pekrul reminisced about his high school days at Boy’s Tech and revealed, “At that time, the school was vacant, and I didn’t want to feel left behind, so I decided to join the military.”
In his hometown, the World War II veteran made a significant contribution to history by delivering a prime-time speech at the Republican National Convention.
Pekrul confidently stated, “It’s just a couple of sheets, I’ll read it.”
Although the Army veteran has delivered many speeches in the past, he has never had the opportunity to speak in prime time until now.
During the Republican National Convention, a veteran of World War II from Wisconsin addressed the audience.
JD Vance’s speech followed his.
The Marine veteran has caught Pekrul’s attention with his impressive background.
“He’s in service, so any guy in service who is also in government is fine!”
Upon the conclusion of the war, Pekrul returned to his home state of Wisconsin where he started a new chapter of his life. He tied the knot and went on to raise a family of 11 children, while also taking on the role of a tool and die specialist at General Motors. In fact, he even constructed his own home during this time.
His approach towards politics is not centered around a particular political party, as he believes.
Pekrul stated that he generally supports male candidates. However, he added that he also considers voting for both Republican and Democratic nominees.
In 2024, he already has a clear choice for his preferred presidential candidate.
Pekrul expressed his admiration for Donald Trump by stating, “I like Donald.” However, he also mentioned that the current President is good but not as forceful as Trump, possibly due to his age.
In November, Joe Biden will be 82 years old while Donald Trump turned 78 in June.
According to some individuals, Donald Trump has a more assertive approach to his speeches and is viewed as a stronger president.
