‘Angry’ migrant shot another migrant outside the ‘Salt Shed’ shelter, prosecutors said

According to officials, a Venezuelan migrant has confessed to shooting another migrant outside their shelter due to his frustration with other residents who resided in the same facility.

On July 1, at approximately 6:35 p.m., a 28-year-old man sustained injuries from a shooting that occurred outside of the shelter situated at 1308 North Elston, which is just across from the Salt Shed.

The crime has now led to the charging of Berbesi Alberto Medina, aged 27, by the prosecutors.

Late Friday night, Medina was apprehended by Chicago police officers during a traffic stop on the 1900 block of West Cermak. The officers discovered a loaded .38-caliber handgun, along with an extended magazine and 23 rounds of ammunition, inside the vehicle.

According to the police, Medina claimed ownership of both the car and the gun. The authorities revealed that the firearm had been reported as stolen from West Virginia.

The prosecution’s detention request was granted by Judge Susana Ortiz. Medina has been charged with aggravated battery by discharging a firearm.
