Bears allow Jonathan Owens to leave training camp for a week to support his wife Simone Biles in the Olympics

Bears safety Jonathan Owens has a good reason to be away from the team for a week starting next Monday, as reported by 670 The Score. Owens will take a temporary leave from the team. The location of his absence and the reason for it have not been disclosed yet.

Legendary American gymnast Simone Biles will be receiving support from her husband, Owens, as she competes in the Summer Olympics in Paris. The Bears have granted formal permission for Owens to travel to the event and his absence will be excused.

Bears head coach Matt Eberflus expressed his admiration for the Olympics and the significance it holds. He acknowledged the importance of showing support for loved ones participating in the event and found it cool that one gets to do so. The coach welcomed the opportunity to witness the games and cheer for team USA as they compete. With enthusiasm, he exclaimed, “It’s going to be awesome. Go USA!”

Starting next Monday, the Bears will excuse Owens from the team, and it is anticipated that he will return on August 4th. Unfortunately, by embarking on this journey, Owens will be absent for the Bears’ first preseason game, which is set to take place on August 1st at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

Bears signed Owens, who is now 29, on a one-year contract back in March. Owens tied the knot with Biles just this April in 2023.

At the age of 27, Biles is widely regarded as the greatest gymnast of all time, having won seven Olympic medals.

On Friday, Paris will host the opening ceremonies for the Olympics.
