Two officers injured after driver involved in Milwaukee police chase hits squad car

On Monday, July 22, a police chase in Milwaukee resulted in a crash involving an unmarked squad car, which left two police officers injured.

Police officers spotted a vehicle linked to a robbery/carjacking in the 25th and Center area at around 4:10 a.m. They tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused and fled. As a result, a vehicle pursuit was launched.

As the chase unfolded, a 23-year-old passenger seated in front of the vehicle decided to make a run for it and leaped out of the car near 20th and Burleigh. However, law enforcement officials were able to apprehend the individual shortly afterward.

Shortly after, the driver collided with a marked squad car that was occupied and had its emergency lights on, located in the vicinity of 24th and Clarke.

During the crash, the airbags in both vehicles were deployed, causing injuries to two out of the three officers who were present in the squad car. The two affected officers, aged 39, had to be taken to the hospital for medical treatment. However, the third officer, who is 42 years old, did not report any injuries.

Following the collision, the driver attempted to escape from the police. Eventually, the vehicle pursuit was terminated near 10th and Highland, and the remaining occupants fled on foot. Subsequently, the authorities arrested the 27-year-old driver near 12th and Highland. Meanwhile, a 22-year-old passenger fled towards the south on N. 12th Street, but after a brief foot pursuit, the police apprehended the passenger as well.

After rushing away from the scene, all individuals inside the vehicle were transported to the hospital for medical evaluation. Law enforcement officials conducted a search of the vehicle and successfully retrieved a firearm.

The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office is set to review the charges, and pending their decision, the outcome remains uncertain.
