Mark Robinson, the Republican gubernatorial candidate, is currently receiving treatment for burns, according to his communications director. This information was confirmed by NBC News on Friday night.
“Good spirits” is how Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson is described by Mike Lonergan, the Robinson campaign’s communications director, as he is being treated for burns after an incident at a campaign event in Mt. Airy.
In response to an inquiry from NBC News regarding a NewsNation report stating that the North Carolina candidate had been hospitalized, Lonergan provided a statement.
The incident remains shrouded in uncertainty with limited information available.
Robinson had been scheduled to speak at a North Carolina Faith & Freedom event on Saturday. However, the event had to be canceled due to a lack of power at the venue. The cancellation was a result of the damage caused by Hurricane Helene, particularly in the western region of North Carolina where the event was supposed to take place.
Just days after a bombshell CNN report, it was revealed that the lieutenant governor had made antisemitic and racist comments on a porn website years ago.
Four top staff members of the embattled Republican’s campaign resigned in the days following the revelation, although the campaign did not explicitly connect the departures to the report.
Despite the allegations, Robinson has remained defiant and has denied them, even though some Republicans have expressed concern over the report.
The Harris campaign is trying to link Robinson to former President Donald Trump, who endorsed him before the CNN report came out. They hope that the controversy surrounding Robinson’s candidacy will benefit the Democrats in their efforts to turn the state blue. Given that Trump won North Carolina by a slim margin in 2020, Republicans have admitted that winning the White House without the state would be challenging.
