More than 300 soldiers of the Wisconsin Army National Guard were bid farewell by their families and friends at a formal sendoff ceremony held at Volk Field, Wisconsin (WEAU).
Governor Tony Evers and senior leaders of the Wisconsin National Guard were also present at the ceremony, which took place on September 28 at Volk Field Air National Guard Base, as stated in a news release from the Wisconsin National Guard.
Brig. Gen. David May, Wisconsin’s interim adjutant general, remarked, “It’s appropriate that we come together at this location, the former site of the Wisconsin Military Reservation—now Camp Williams and Volk Field.
more than a century, the Wisconsin National Guard has conducted training here, and from this very site, we have deployed our soldiers and airmen to every conflict since the Spanish-American War.”
Soldiers from Company A and Company C of the 1st Battalion, 128th Infantry Regiment, along with Company C of the 132nd Brigade Support Battalion and members of the 457th Chemical Company, will be deployed to different locations within the U.S. Central Command area of operations.
Less than 10 Soldiers from the Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 120th Field Artillery Regiment, will be deployed to the Horn of Africa to provide support for the U.S. Africa Command mission in that region.
May emphasized the increasing importance of the country’s international presence.
May emphasized that the impact of Wisconsin’s units extends far beyond the state’s borders, reaching a global scale.
Evers expressed his gratitude to the deploying soldiers for their dedication and service to both Wisconsin and the nation.
“As you prepare to embark on your crucial missions, each and every one of you is poised to contribute to Wisconsin’s history by virtue of your dedicated service,” expressed Evers.
The soldiers who have been deployed are anticipated to come back to Wisconsin in the autumn of 2025.
