A mural being painted on the new D.C. Department of Housing headquarters in Southeast took inspiration from a four-year-old girl.

El Mac explained his decision to select Unique from the other children he had photographed at Savoy Elementary School, citing her exceptional qualities that made her stand out.
According to her, she resides just a couple of blocks from the mural and intends to make it a part of her daily routine.
“It holds a significant meaning for me,” Lynch expressed with heartfelt emotion. “When I named her Unique, I had a strong intuition that she would possess extraordinary qualities – being distinct, beautiful, and truly remarkable.”
Unique expressed her admiration for the mural, stating that she really liked it. Her younger brother, Tae’shaun, who is only three years old, enthusiastically declared that he also wants a mural of himself.
El Mac expressed his hope that when individuals observe the mural, which is still a work in progress, it will convey a profound sense of the love and dedication invested in it. He desires for people to connect with the artwork on a deep emotional level.
“I put a lot of love into these murals because they really require a great deal of heart and soul,” he expressed passionately.
