A 14-year-old student from the Albion School District in Orleans County has been arrested by authorities on Sunday. The arrest was made in response to an alleged terroristic threat made by the student on social media.
Investigators have reported that the threat was made over a week ago through a Snapchat post during a conversation with peers.
The sheriff’s office initiated an investigation following a complaint made to law enforcement. They proceeded by conducting interviews with witnesses and collecting evidence.
The teenager has been charged by prosecutors with a Class D Felony for Making a Terroristic Threat.
According to the sheriff’s chief deputy, the student was released to the custody of their parents and given an appearance ticket due to the limitations imposed by NYS law.
The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office has issued a statement to 7 News, expressing their concern over the incident and assuring the community that they have taken immediate action to address the situation.
Authorities are working closely with the Albion School District to establish and enforce necessary safety protocols, ensuring a secure and protected learning environment.
