Over 100 animals displaced by Helene find refuge in WI animal shelters

Wisconsin animal shelters received assistance on Wednesday to alleviate their burden.

According to Angela Speed, vice president of marketing and communications at the Wisconsin Humane Society, there are heartwarming accounts of shelter workers bravely navigating through chest-high water to rescue animals from their kennels.

Pets that were already in the animal shelter before the hurricane hit are the animals flown into the Waukesha County Airport.

Speed explained that shelters are not actively seeking owners for these animals. Instead, their goal is to find them temporary homes to accommodate the overwhelming number of cats, dogs, and other animals in need.

According to Speed, the animals may be ready for adoption as early as this weekend.

These are the shelters that are currently taking in the animals:

    • Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County (HAWS)
    • Humane Society of Jefferson County
    • Elmbrook Humane Society
    • Washington County Humane Society
    • Wisconsin Humane Society
    • Dane County Humane Society
    • Eau Claire Humane Association
    • Green County Humane Society
