Specifically, 56% of respondents expressed this sentiment, compared to 44% who believe that Wisconsin is headed in the right direction. These numbers indicate a concerning trend and suggest that there may be a need for course correction in the state’s governance.
According to Franklin, the track record of “Wrong track” has been exceptional in this competition, holding the title for four to five years, particularly since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the passage of time, it remains in a precarious position and there is a prevailing sense of pessimism regarding the direction the state is taking.
According to Franklin, the increase in individuals who believe that Wisconsin is heading in the wrong direction may be attributed to a growing number of voters expressing financial hardships.
According to the Marquette poll, 48% of Wisconsin voters report living comfortably, while 37% state that they are just getting by. Additionally, 16% of respondents claim to be struggling.
According to Franklin, the current comfortable number remains around 48%, a noticeable decrease from the 60% range seen in 2019. This highlights the contrasting perceptions of people’s personal finances before the COVID-19 pandemic and their current situation under Biden’s economic outcomes.
The survey took place from September 18th to 26th, 2024, and involved interviews with 882 registered voters in Wisconsin. The margin of error for this group is +/-4.4 percentage points. Additionally, 798 likely voters were interviewed, with the same margin of error of +/-4.4 percentage points as for registered voters.
