According to Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who is a strong contender for California’s Senate seat, he believes that the presidential race is “scary close.” However, he remains optimistic that Vice President Harris still has a chance to emerge victorious this coming November.
During an interview on NBC News’s “Meet the Press,” Schiff reiterated his support for Harris by standing by his previous remarks from July. At that time, he openly advocated for Harris to replace President Biden as the Democratic nominee, expressing confidence that she could secure a resounding victory.
In response to the question, Schiff maintained his belief that Harris has the potential to secure a resounding victory. However, he did offer a word of caution.
Schiff believes that she has the potential to win by a large margin in today’s standards. He acknowledges that in a deeply divided country, winning overwhelmingly could mean securing victory by a margin of 100,000 or 80,000 votes in crucial battleground states.
Schiff added that he believes she is capable of accomplishing that task.
In July, he emphasized his support for passing the torch to her, stating that the effect has been quite remarkable. He noted, “Young people who were previously disengaged are now actively engaged, interested, and volunteering.”
He expressed optimism but remained cautious as some swing states were still extremely close.
“We are in a strong position to secure victory in this race, although it is undeniably a close one,” he expressed with a hint of concern. “Never before have we faced such a decisive and critical moment in our nation’s history.
The choice before us is stark: do we forge ahead towards an inclusive economy and a thriving democracy, or do we regress to the bleak state of affairs characterized by the previous administration’s American carnage?”
“He expressed his confidence in Kamala Harris winning this race, given the prospect and choice ahead. He remains optimistic about the outcome.”
