Former Florida Democratic lawmaker supports Trump, citing foreign policy

A former Democratic congressman, who served six terms in the House, announced on Monday that he is endorsing former President Trump. In explaining his decision, he expressed concerns about the Biden administration’s approach to handling global conflicts.

Former Representative Peter Deutsch (D), who served Florida’s 20th Congressional District from 1993 to 2005, expressed his endorsement during a call arranged by the Trump campaign to commemorate the anniversary of the Hamas attacks on Israel.

“I am pleased to announce my public endorsement of Donald Trump for reelection as president,” Deutsch confidently declared. He went on to affirm his intention to cast his vote for Trump on Election Day.

The Trump campaign aimed to take the offensive stance during the commemoration of the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks. These attacks resulted in the loss of over 1,200 Israeli lives and triggered a larger conflict that has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza.

Trump and his allies have claimed that President Biden and Vice President Harris have adopted a passive stance towards Iran, a country that supports Hamas. They have also accused the Biden administration of not providing sufficient support to Israel in its conflict against the Palestinian militant group.

Throughout his presidency, Trump consistently positioned himself as a staunch supporter of Israel. He proudly highlighted his achievements in this regard, including moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, recognizing the Golan Heights as Israeli territory, and brokering the historic Abraham Accords that fostered normalized relations between Israel and a number of Arab nations.

The Harris campaign has garnered significant support from prominent Republicans endorsing her candidacy. Notable endorsements include those from former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) and former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan (R).
