In a recent court filing, Wise is requesting a postponement of his trial date, which is currently set for November 1. He suggests that the trial should instead commence on the agreed-upon “back-up trial date” of January 7, as stated by U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss.

Wise’s lawyer argued in the trial brief and motion to continue the trial date that resetting it to January 7, 2025 would ensure that the trial proceeds without the weight of a significant election looming.

According to Wise, the concerns raised in a previous motion to change venue are even more pronounced in the current trial setting. These concerns include the limited jury pool due to his connection to Washington, D.C. as a result of his extensive federal government work experience.

Wise argues that the politically charged environment and the heightened media attention on issues related to President Trump’s candidacy and potential reelection further exacerbate these concerns.

According to Wise, the case should be delayed due to the criminal charges against Trump regarding his alleged actions during the Jan. 6 riot.

Trump has suggested that if he is elected, he will grant pardons to those who have been found guilty of committing crimes during the Capitol incident on January 6th.

This was a day when lawmakers were forced to evacuate or take shelter for hours as rioters successfully breached the building while Congress was in the process of certifying Joe Biden’s electoral victory.

The initial article titled ‘The prudent option’: As Trump suggests pardons, former FBI agent turned accused Jan. 6 rioter seeks trial postponement until after ‘monumental election’ was published on Law & Crime.
