First Round of October Social Security Payments Worth $4,873 Arriving Soon

The first round of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) payments for October is set to be distributed soon. SSDI, administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA), provides monthly payments to individuals whose disabilities limit or prevent them from working. Depending on the individual’s situation, payments can be as high as $4,873.

October SSDI Payment Schedule:

  1. October 3: For recipients who have been receiving SSDI since before May 1997.
  2. October 9: For recipients whose birthday falls between the 1st and 10th of the month.
  3. October 16: For recipients born between the 11th and 20th of the month.
  4. October 23: For those born between the 21st and 31st of the month.

If your payment is late or hasn’t arrived, it’s recommended to:

  • Confirm the expected payment date to ensure it’s actually delayed.
  • Wait an extra day or two for potential delays.
  • If necessary, contact the SSA via their helpline or visit a local office for assistance.

Upcoming Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA):

The 2025 COLA is expected to be announced soon after inflation data from the third quarter is finalized. This adjustment is based on the CPI-W (Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers), and retirees can expect a 2.5% increase. This is lower than the 2024 increase, reflecting cooling inflation, but still above the 20-year average of 2%.

Options to improve benefits include:

  • Delaying benefits to increase future payments.
  • Reducing expenses or relocating to more affordable areas to manage living costs better.
