A simple $500 (£390) purchase turned out to be much more than what a man had expected.
It all began when a fortunate buyer purchased a storage unit from auctioneer Dan Dotson of the show “Storage Wars.” This popular US show revolves around the sale of locked storage units that have been abandoned and unpaid for a period of three months.
The owner of the storage units can proceed to auction them off without prior knowledge of their contents.
In previous episodes, individuals have come across vintage automobiles and rare hidden treasures. However, one gentleman discovered himself with a staggering $7.5 million (£5.8 million) in his possession.
Dotson and his wife, fellow auctioneer Laura Dotson, shared their experience on their joint YouTube channel. According to Dotson, an elderly Asian woman sitting nearby seemed to have something she wanted to say to him.
A little while later, she approached me and shared that her husband’s colleague had purchased one of my units for $500 and made an amazing discovery – a hidden safe inside.
According to him, the buyer had hired someone to open the unit, but they were unsuccessful.
When the second person was called to open the safe, they made a surprising discovery. Normally, safes are empty, but this time it was different. Inside, they found a whopping $7.5 million (£5.8 million) in cash,” he exclaimed.
Dotson expressed his disbelief at the possibility of forgetting about $7.5 million within a unit. He acknowledged that it could be a situation where someone else was in charge, but he found it difficult to imagine such a significant amount being overlooked.
Laura speculated about the source of the money, suggesting that it could have been due to a credit card that went bad, leading the person to move away or even go to jail. The exact circumstances remained unclear.
