Resilient Wisconsinite in Florida overcomes back-to-back hurricanes

Florida residents are currently grappling with the aftermath of the devastating hurricanes in the southern United States.

Among them is Jasper MacFarland, originally from Wisconsin, who unfortunately lost his home in Clearwater, Florida, due to the destructive Hurricane Helene. To make matters worse, he narrowly escaped another potential disaster during Hurricane Milton.

MacFarland chose not to evacuate because the storm was initially forecasted to be less severe in his area. The storm suddenly veered off its original path.

Jasper MacFarland and his loyal companion, Azula, found themselves in a dire situation as they had to be rescued from the rapidly rising water.

Ever since then, Jasper has been forced to seek shelter in his truck or rely on the kindness of friends. This was the case even during the onslaught of Hurricane Milton, where Jasper’s resilience was truly put to the test. (Photo courtesy of Jasper MacFarland)

MacFarland recounted a frightening incident that occurred last night during the storm. He described hearing a loud thud, so powerful that it seemed to shake the very foundation of the building.

To his relief, he discovered that it was a tree that had fallen, narrowly missing his truck by just one parking spot.

During Hurricane Milton, MacFarland had a gut feeling that he should relocate his truck to a different spot than his usual parking spot at his friend’s house.

He shared, “Last night, amidst the storm, I heard a loud thud that seemed to shake the very foundation of this building. To my surprise, a tree had fallen, narrowly missing my truck by just one parking spot.” MacFarland’s quick decision saved his truck from potential damage.

“There aren’t many people traveling the roads at the moment. The debris is causing a lot of obstructions, with fallen trees scattered everywhere. I’ve even witnessed signs being blown away,” he remarked.

Jasper MacFarland, a victim of a devastating flood, shared his heartbreaking experience of losing everything he owned.

He expressed his despair, stating, “I lost my tools; I lost my way of earning a living and everything in the house, including all my paperwork, file cabinets under water.” MacFarland’s words paint a vivid picture of the immense loss he suffered due to the destructive force of the flood.

MacFarland expressed his gratitude, acknowledging that he considers himself fortunate to still be alive, having experienced the impact of both hurricanes.

MacFarland’s daughter created a GoFundMe campaign to assist him in rebuilding his life. You can find the fundraiser by clicking here.
