A well-known psychiatrist from Beverly Hills, California, who is often referred to as a “celebrity shrink,” has taken legal action against Andre Young, widely recognized as Dr. Dre.
The psychiatrist alleges that the rapper not only verbally attacked him but also subjected him to a series of threatening actions, including a visit from individuals impersonating federal agents at his residence.
Dr. Charles Sophy, a well-known TV commentator and former medical director of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, has filed a $10 million lawsuit in LA on Wednesday.
According to the lawsuit, Sophy served as a mediator and marriage counselor for the rapper and his ex-wife Nicole Young during their divorce proceedings from 2018 to 2021.
However, about 14 months after the divorce settlement, Sophy claims that he started receiving “threatening” texts from Young. She allegedly told him that he would have to face consequences for his actions and that he had picked the wrong person to mess with.
Sophy accused Young of threatening to go after his medical license for alleged “ethical breaches,” as reported by Rolling Stone.
According to Young’s attorney, Sophy’s lawsuit is considered a “desperate” act of retaliation. This claim arises from the fact that the rapper had previously filed a complaint with a state medical board against the psychiatrist.
The attorney argues that Sophy had been encouraging one of the Youngs’ children to take sides against Mr. Young during the divorce proceedings.
Furthermore, it is alleged that Sophy even went as far as encouraging the son to make false allegations to the press in order to pressure a financial settlement, as recommended by the psychiatrist.
According to Sophy’s attorney, Christopher Frost, Young chose to express his frustrations regarding the mediation by targeting Dr. Sophy.
According to the lawyers, these frustrations were expressed through a continuous, almost year-long campaign of late-night texts, threats of intimidation and violence, as well as homophobic rhetoric.
